What is Cordyceps?
Originating from the Ming Dynasty, Cordyceps, or “Dong Chong Xia Cao” in Chinese, is a highly valued medicinal parasitic fungus used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for thousands of years. The original Wild Cordyceps come from the Qinghai-Tibet plateau, a place known for its high altitudes and cold environment, making it a difficult herb to harvest. As a result, it was only accessible to members of the Emperor's court in the past.
A tonifying herb, Wild Cordyceps has been utilised for the management of fatigue, immunity and respiratory problems. Although rare in the beginning, advanced biotechnology has made the prospect of harvesting Cordyceps a reality. This has resulted in over 400 strains of Cordyceps worldwide, but the only true strain is Hirsutella Sinensis, which bears the same benefits and tested to be >99% genetically similar to the original Wild Cordyceps from the Qinghai-Tibet plateau.
