Zinc
Type: Mineral
Zinc is a trace mineral that is essential for various bodily functions, such as protein synthesis, collagen formation, wound healing, and healthy immune function. It is also needed to support prostate and reproductive health, especially for males.
Common food sources include animal meats, shellfish, beans, legumes and eggs.
Individuals who have digestive disorders (e.g. Celiac Disease & Crohn's Disease) and/or on a vegetarian diet are at higher risk of zinc deficiency. Therefore supplementation of zinc is important to ensure optimal level in the body. A deficiency in zinc may lead to fatigue, impaired senses of taste and smell, poor appetite, slow wound healing, poor immunity and hair loss.
