Corn Silk (Stigma maydis) is an important herb used traditionally by the Chinese and Native Americans to treat many ailments.
As an extract, corn Silk is made from stigmas, the yellowish thread like strands from the female flower of maize, and has been used as a therapeutic remedy for various ailments such as cystitis, edema, kidney stones, diuretic, prostate disorder, urinary infections, and obesity.
In one study, researchers concluded that corn silk extract inhibited fat accumulation and fat synthesis, while promoting the expression of genes involved in fat oxidation.
